Dark chocolate eyes glared into the pink and orange sky, the sun was slowly sinking down into the earth as the day was gradually turning into night, Delilah padded through the woodlands of the forest that she and the Royals called home. Beams of golden light filtered through the strong trees like rays and streamed down onto the woodland ground and onto her glossy ebony and silver fur. Her paws lightly padded on the soft earth below her, the odd few leaves still littered the ground and most of the branches on the trees were still bare, though rich green leaves had begun to cover most of the twigs. Spring was starting and the weather had proved to be warming already, this was a good sign for Winter had been harsh and it was a struggle for the pack. Delilah almost shuddered at the thought of Winter, a season she did not like for many reasons, the lack of prey as one of them, most of the forest animals took shelter in the winter or had died, leaving the pack to go hungry. The bitter coldness of the season had stung many of the dogs in the pack, mostly of those with short fur like herself and pups, Delilah could not remember off the top of her head how many pups had been claimed by the bitter coldness that winter. However the looks in each of the mothers eyes and the agony in their distraught cries would remain burned in the back of her mind as there was nothing that could be done. However, with Spring well on the way, things were starting to look up for the pack for the weather was warming and prey was more plenty, it was a season for pups soon and the dogs would be getting strong once more. Delilah remembered with a sigh, that this year they needed to grow in strength more than ever and she would have to help with that. With the growth of the Rebels, they would need to be ready for fights to come, she couldn’t help but snarl under her breath at the thought of the traitorous rebels.
Sniffing around the area, the petite mixed female stalked silently through the darkening woods, the sun still taking it’s time to sink down past the hills. Delilah had decided to check around the area to make sure no Rebels were lurking around, she had to make sure that the pack could go through the night with no problems. She preferred to keep a watch in the darkness simply because of the colour of her fur, her black and grey coat allowed her to blend well into the shadows without being spotted easily and since she was a little on the short side, she could fit easily into spaces a larger dog could not. Sniffing around the muddy ground, she took in the scents of that day, pack members had been through recently as well as other small forest animals, though that did not come as a surprise to her. Thankfully, there was no scent of the rebel group where she was and she felt relieved that her pack could possibly have a good sleep, with hopes for a better year.
As darkness rolled into the woodlands, owls hooted in the distance, their large amber eyes glistening in their holes in the trees they called home. Delilah did not look up at those birds that called into the night, meaning death for the mice that scurried along the midnight forest floor. She gazed up for a moment as she sat herself down on the cool ground, her line of sight focused on the patch of night sky that could be seen through the canopy of leaves. Her tail was curled around her front paws as she gazed at the skies and stars that twinkled before her as she sat, near the edge of the wood boundaries. She decided not to venture away from the woods, for she would be out in the open where it would be more likely to be seen by rebels that had a craving for a fight that night. The glittering fairy lights in the sky reflected within the mixed female’s dark oak eyes as she stared, with her ears twitching slightly, listening out for any noises.
She allowed her eyes to close for a moment, as she took to thinking to herself, wondering what the next day would bring, hopefully more excitement than what happened today. However, sneaking into her train of thoughts like a snake came the distant thoughts of her past, ones that she would rather forget and some from the present, which she had hoped to have buried in the back of her memory. The sounds of howls of distraught and battle snarls, silent whimpers and cries filled her mind from a year ago to only a few months ago. From some of the mothers in the packs dismay as their pups were claimed by the harsh Winter, to her own cries as she curled around a lost love, still his scent lingered to her and she could clearly remember the way her heart felt like it was being snatched from her insides. Delilah snarled at her own mind for surrendering to the memories she had locked away and scrabbled, rather quickly to her feet, she felt like she had made herself weak and pathetic, instantly becoming frustrated with herself. In response to her sudden anger, she quickly breathed deeply before sprinting back the way that she had come, thinking of something else to block out unwanted memories. For she had more important things to deal with in the present and future, then to continue lingering around in her own past. The moon and stars shone brightly as she ran, shining above her head as she darted past trees and nimbly bounding over fallen logs that barred her path, her muscular legs allowing her to simply glide over the obstacles. Her dark oak eyes burned with determination as she spotted the pack before her, sitting around in groups and talking amongst themselves, she allowed herself to come to a stop as well as her anger as she waltzed into the place she called home.
